Explaining factors affecting help-seeking behaviors in women with urinary incontinence: a qualitative study

Abstract Background Urinary incontinence is widely accepted to be among the most important issues in global health system. However, only a limited number of women are referred for treatment because different factors complicate help-seeking behaviors. The aim this study was explain affecting behaviors suffering from urinary incontinence. Methods This qualitative using conventional content analysis approach. conducted December 2018 and August 2019 Tehran, Iran. participants were 34 with selected purposive sampling method. approach based on Graneheim Lundman method, data management software used analysis. Results Data illustrates two themes; “ facilitator inhibitor “; categories “not perceiving disease”, “shame”, negative support others”, “non-optimal care system” inhibitors reduced quality life positive others” found facilitators Conclusions findings present highlight need understanding underlying We suggest that healthcare providers consider an open dialogue patients their subjective beliefs context during routine visits facilitate early diagnosis disease ultimately lead improvement woman’s life.
